More than 500 bodaboda riders from Muhoroni sub county are set to benefit from a Sh4 million training programme.
The CDF road safety training is aimed at equipping all operators with driving licences.
Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo said the operators will undergo a three month training sponsored by CDF after which they will be issued with licences.
He said training will be conducted by AA driving school with riders required to have their ID and voting cards.
“We want to tell those without the two vital documents to acquire them first before they are recruited for the project,” he said.
K'Oyoo said each of the five wards will produce 50 riders for the training in the first phase.
The wards are Chemelil, Masogo/Nyangoma, Miwani, Muhoroni/Koru and Ombeyi.
He was addressing the riders on voter registration and empowerment programme at Chemelil town on Wednesday.
K'Oyoo said the three year programme expects to see all riders in Muhoroni equipped with safety skills to help prevent road carnage.
He said most of the bodaboda operators have no training and given that they operate within the busy Kisumu-Nairobi road, there are more risks to them and their passengers.
The MP noted that the programme would bring sanity in the transport sector.
Meanwhile, K'Oyoo who launched massive voter registration at Magare in his constituency urged residents to come out in large numbers and register as voters.
“The only tool to help Cord leader Raila Odinga to win the Presidency is when we all register as voters and cast our votes on the poll day,” he said.
He urged the MCAs, Senators, MPs and Governors to conduct door-to door voter mobilisation to ensure those who have attained 18 years register.
Koyoo said millions of votes were not cast in the 2013 elections.
Luo had (1.1 million), Kisii (1million), Western (1.6million) and Coast (1.2million) he said.
