The Schools Boards of Management (BOMs) in Kisii county has been tasked to reduce time wasting activities in schools.
The BOMs will be required to engage the local communities on the urgent need to discourage holding funerals and weddings in school compounds to avoid disrupting learning.
Addressing stakeholders on Wednesday, last week during the launching of the BOMs at Masimba, the County Education Board (CEB) chairman, Henry Onderi, said that the wastage of vital learning time leads to poor national examination results, hence, they want such activities to be gotten rid of to better performances.
"We are discouraging such events taking place in school compounds since they have been disrupting learning activities in our schools," said Onderi.
The chairman reminded the members that as state officers, their conduct will be on the spot while they manage the institutions on behalf of the communities and government. He further called for the prudent use of school facilities even as they shared them with the education stakeholders warning that they will be held accountable for any misuse.
