Tiaty MP Asman Kamama has said his “Boresha Katiba” referendum push an initiative launched last week by Jubilee parliamentarians to amend the Constitution has gathered momentum.
Kamama, who is the chairman of the initiative said on Wednesday that a number of members of the National Assembly had already signed up in support of the drive.
“We have already started collecting signatures, for the initiative aimed at increasing money for counties and having Cabinet secretaries appointed by Parliament,’’ read a post on his Facebook account.
The lawmaker also said the drive that seeks to double allocation to the Constituency Development Fund had received an overwhelming support from Kenyans.
“This initiative is really progressing well, and we have received positive feedback from different quarters and by next week, we hope to have collected at least 230 signatures,” added Kamama.
He further revealed that they have already started contacting various groupings including the clergy and civil society in order to get their views saying the key constitutional issues which have been identified will be unveiled by December 10.
The MPs who included; Gideon Konchella (Kilgoris), Kabando wa Kabando (Mukurweini) and Joseph Samal (Isiolo North), had already backed the idea and appealed to all Kenyans to support them as they seek to change 20 per cent of the Constitution which they believe is unfit.
