Residents of Maseno want the county government to establish speed humps along the busy Kisumu-Busia highway following a series of accidents.
They said they have raised the issue many times but the county government has not taken any action as the place is characterised by over-speeding vehicles especially heavy trucks.
There is no speed hump along the road, so drivers just speed as they wish despite the sharp corners.
“I can not allow my children to go alone to school for fear of the road. For the past 5 years I have been here I have witnessed a series of accidents due to over-speeding. The county government should take swift action for I can not imagine the consequence if a tank carrying petrol veers off the road as they are the majority in the area,” said Joyce Kwamboka, a resident.
They called on the county government to take responsibility and erect the speed humps.
Jacob Karanja, an elder in the area said the road is very risky especially as it slants and slim on its way to Kisumu.
The latest accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a truck lost control and plunged into a ditch.
Eye witnesses said the vehicle was over-speeding.
Luckily no one was injured during the accident.
