A nominated MP has alleged that there is massive corruption in the use of the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF).

ODM legislator Isaac Mwaura said the fund has been misappropriated by the people charged with the responsibility to monitor its usage.

Mwaura said the work done by CDF is always not proportionate with the amount of money allocated in the budget.

He said the fund has been used as a political tool instead of its intended sole purpose to spur development.

“The fund has been used for political mileage. When you see  a building that has been put up using Sh2 million you, realise how public funds are being mismanaged,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday when he presided over a graduation on political leadership and governance program run by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Mwaura said corruption has permeated all sectors in the country.

He said action must be taken against individuals who are involved in corruption as a way of restoring confidence among Kenyans that the war on corruption is real.

“The executive must narrow down on corrupt individuals as a way of communicating to the public that the war is serious and nobody will be spared,” he said.

Mwaura pointed out that corruption has gone hi-tech and the government must devise new mechanisms on how to deal firmly with graft.
