Cheruiyot said on Tuesday that farmers need more extension officers to guide them on how to reduce the cost of production and increase productivity.

"In Uasin Gishu County, we only have 90 extension officers which is a drop in the ocean- to cover 30 wards in the county, and on top of that most of them will soon be retiring, therefore we need to deploy more," he said.

He said due to the scarcity, its difficult to offer training to farmers on modern ways of crop production to increase yields.
