Kiambu County National Alliance (TNA) party coordinator Gladys Chania has urged religious leaders in the county to help mentor young people.
Speaking at Kianyago trading center in Gatundu North on Monday, Chania called on religious leaders to take the front-line in mentoring the youths.
The TNA coordinator said that the church has a crucial role to play in mentoring young people. Chania observed that many young people are being led astray and need a lot of guidance.
“Religious leaders should partner with us as we strive to provide counseling to our young people many who are facing challenges like drug and alcohol abuse,” she said.
Chania said that it is a collective responsibility for society to shape the conduct and behavior of the youths.
She noted that the responsibility of mentoring young people has been left to teachers alone who she said are overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, Chania has urged Gatundu North residents to report people they suspect are still brewing and selling illicit brews.
Chania who is also anti-drug campaigner said that there are reports of re-emergence of illicit brews in the area and called on local chiefs to deal with perpetrators of the illegal brews.
“We need the support of every citizen in order to fight illicit brewing especially chang’aa,” she said. The anti-drug crusader asked youths to shun drugs and instead focus their energies on productive activities.
