Kiambu TNA coordinator Gladys Chania has asked both the national and county governments to start programmes that will empower the boy child.

Speaking at the Hope of Life Church in Githurai on Sunday, Chania said the boy child has been neglected with much emphasis being channelled to the girl child.

Chania said that there is need for equal empowerment programmess for both the boy and the girl child to ensure that none is disadvantaged.

“The government, both at the national and county level, should start programmess for the empowerment of the boy child, for equal empowerment and development,” she said.

The TNA coordinator noted that the neglect of the boy child has made them vulnerable to drug abuse.

She said majority of the youth engaging in drug abuse are young boys who feel abandoned by the society.

“High cases of drug and alcohol abuse involve young boys who feel rejected by the society,” she said.

Chania said that equal opportunities should be given to both girls and boys to curb cases of depression and neglect in either gender.

At the same time, Chania who is also the Kiambu anti-drug campaigner advised parents and guardians to take keen interest in their children's activities and mentor them rightly.

Chania said most parents have neglected their parental roles, a move she says has given youth the opportunity to engage in social evils like drug abuse and prostitution.
