Kiambu TNA coordinator Gladys Chania has decried rising cases of defilement and rape in some parts of the county.

Chania said that cases of teenagers being defiled are on the rise and asked law enforcement agencies to intervene and curb the vice.

Speaking to journalists when she visited a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly defiled by her step-father in Kihara village in Kiambu county on Wednesday, Chania called for a review of rape and defilement laws.

She said that the laws on rape are lenient and have given perpetrators a chance to continue their evil acts.

“It is time we considered reviewing some of these laws on rape so that justice can be served to victims of rape and defilement,” said chania.

Chania said that most defilement cases are committed by people who are well known by the victims such as relatives.

She said that children rights must be protected at all costs adding that law enforcers have to work together in order to curb the rising cases of defilement.

The TNA coordianor noted that many cases of rape committed by relatives are not reported to the police a move she said denies justice to the victims.

“We cannot afford to keep quite when our teen daughters are being raped and defiled by people we know. We must speak out and call for action against the perpetrators,” she added.

Chania urged local leaders and child rights activists to campaign against rape and defilement.

She also called for the sacking of police officers and local chiefs who protect rape suspects.
