Uasin Gishu County government is determined to remove all the street children in Eldoret town from the streets since they are a threat to security.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Uasin Gishu County Government Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said that Uasin Gishu county government has started an exercise of taking the street children back to their homes since they learnt that they have parents.

“Street children have been a major cause of insecurity in the county which has made it hard for Uasin Gishu residents to operate their business or move with ease. We will not relent until we ensure that our streets are free of street children,” he said.

He said that he has information that the street children who had been taken to their homes have resurfaced in Eldoret town again.

“Street children who have come back to Eldoret town after reuniting them with their parents at their respective counties will be arrested and taken back to their parents for Eldoret residents to be secure,” he said.

He said the street children in town are a security threat adding they can steal from anyone in broad light.

"We have received reports that there are some people who are complaining that it was rude taking them back to their homes. Who does not have a home and why shouldn't they be reunited with their families?" he wondered.
