A church leader in Nyamira South sub-county has appealed to the government to use all available state machinery to weed out fake pastors who commit offences.

Gesiaga PAG pastor Denis Irani registered discontent with the Regulation Bill which he maintained infringed on the freedom of worship.

Speaking during a service on Sunday, Irani called for wider consultations between the State and the churches over the issue.

“The state should deal with fraudulent preachers as individuals instead of blanket assumptions about preachers,” said Irani.

He reiterated that his Forum ministers had internal mechanisms of identifying and reprimanding rogue preachers.

This comes barely after hundreds of church leaders asked the government to engage the clergy across the country before coming up with radical decisions particularly those touching on the church.

“The main purpose of the church is to preach, make converts, disciples and followers and this is what we shall continue to do,” he declared.

He vowed to continue making altar calls in their sermons threatening to mobilize their faithful to demonstrate against any laws that would deny the freedom of association and worship.

They claimed the growth of churches had gone down since 2014 when registration of churches stopped.
