The church has been urged to continue praying for the country as 2017 general election nears.

“Corruption is tearing the country apart, I appeal to the church to pray for the nation so that leaders can give the correct direction the country should take,” Ogra Foundation Director Dr Heron Makobewa said.

Speaking on Sunday at Alendu Catholic Parish church in Nyando constituency, Dr Makobewa said the country should remain united as it heads to election.

He told Kenyans to elect leaders who are God faring and development conscious.

“This is the best opportunity for Kenyans to elect leaders who are God fearing in 2017 as a way of fighting corruption and other bad deeds being witnessed daily among the leaders,” he said.

Dr Makobewa who is eyeing Kisumu County gubernatorial seat in 2017 said politics should not divide Kenyans.

He helped to raise Sh1.9 million for the construction of the church, noting that it was a pledge he made to the late Mama Helida Odhiambo, who was a staunch Catholic in the area.

He said giving back to the church is an initiate that should be embraced by every leader.
