 A 13-year-old boy was on Tuesday evening ran over by a trailer along Javaisha, Ring Road Nyalenda area in Kisumu County.

The class seven pupil from Joel Omino Primary School was on his way home in Manyatta Estate after playing with friends until late in the night.

Soline Omondi who witnessed the incident said the boy was in the company of other two, and were carrying each other on a bicycle; one on the saddle, the other on the carrier while another on the frame.

According to Omondi, the three were frightened by the hooting of the trailer that was coming from behind.

“It was at this point that two of them jumped while he fell on the road. The trailer, unable to stop immediately, crashed his head and he died on the spot,” she said.

Kisumu County Police Commander Nelson Njiri said they had been informed of the accident, adding that investigations are underway.

The head teacher, Peter Okoth confirmed that the deceased was a pupil at the school and that they got the information from the his brother on that same night.

“I went and confirmed at the Kisumu East District Hospital mortuary that indeed he was one of my pupils. It is a sad moment for the school fraternity,” said Okoth.

He, however, refuted claims that the boy was a candidate sitting the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations which started on Tuesday.
