Security at the Coast has been beefed up as the festive season draws near.
Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa said escalation of criminal violence among the adolescent population in Mombasa poses a serious security threat to the public.
Mr Marwa said there has been a rise in crime at public beaches in Mombasa County and the government has deployed more officers to ensure security.
“We have deployed more officers in all beaches at the Coast prone to crime and the perpetrators will be arrested. The culprits will face dire consequences,” said Mr Marwa.
The security team will be chaired by Mr Marwa and police boss Francis Wanjohi which will increase surveillance on business premises and beaches at the coast.
The commissioner who was speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach during a public meeting ordered for the immediate arrest of the gang of youth peddling drugs and robbing residents at public beaches.
“Some gangs are operating in Kisauni and are participating in crime related activities. We shall ensure that enough security is provided and all the gang members are arrested and prosecuted.”
Police boss Francis Wanjohi said the police officers will conduct patrols on roads and hotels to ensure the public is well protected adding that adequate security measures have been put in place.
“We want to ensure locals and visitors coming to Mombasa for the holidays that it is safe. Adequate security is in place.”
The commissioner urged the residents to work with the security agencies to ensure they are well protected.
