Magoso Primary School has started classes to equip pupils and the public with tailoring skills and fashion design.

This comes just a week after Nairobi woman representative Rachael Shebesh urged school drop outs to apply for bursaries to join vocational training institutions.

The move seeks to help the public to learn dress making and fashion design whereby they will be able to employ themselves.

Speaking to this writer, the founder of fashion and design Lilian Wagala said the classes will run for 10 hours per day.

“There are pupils who don’t afford high school fees so we allow them to join the class after their KCPE exams. Some of them may not be performing well in school but they have an interest in fashion and design. For such children, we have learnt to nurture them. That is why we started this classes,” said Wagala on Monday.

She said by equipping people skills in dress making, it will help them start their own business.

“We are now planning for our fashion show competition where we will allow these students to showcase their designs so that we can know how innovative they have become in the market,’’ she added.

The December 29 event is set to happen at the school.
