Health authorities in Gatundu North Sub-County have expressed concern over the increasing cases of breast cancer in the region.
Speaking at Igegania Hospital on the 2nd October 2015, the area health deputy director Janet Nyambura disclosed that breast cancer accounted for 29% of the women patients attended at the facility over the past 2 years.
Nyambura also said that the other cancers were cervical cancer at 23%, prostate 21% and lung 27%.
The officer stressed that cancer should not be viewed as a death sentence since if detected early, it could be treated. She further announced that a one week free cancer screening medical camp will be held at Igegania Hospital as from November 8 this year.
Janet further said that two cancer treatment machines had been availed in the hospital and she therefore urged the women to turn up and get screened. She also urged residents of all ages to present themselves for checkup.
