Machakos University College students have woken up to a rude shock of finding the buildings the institution on fire over claims of rigging in student elections.

Claims of election malpractice in presidential polls in the university’s school of education led to the nullification of the whole outcome, much to the chagrin of some students.

The fire, which started at around 3.30am burned down the office of the university’s dean of students and that of finance.

The fire-fighters came late and found that the fire had caused a lot of damage.

Tension build up in the university, leading to the indefinite closure after it became clear that students may cause further damage to property.

The students were left confused after the morning incident, with many understandably fearing that they would be sent home.

The unrest caused a lot of traffic jam, with many motorists moving away from the chaos.

This comes barely a year after students from the same institution took part in a strike.
