Students have been urged to consider local polytechnics, training and middle-level colleges even as they await the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
Speaking to this writer on Saturday, Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma said students who do not make it to public and private universities should consider the local institutions.
The governor claimed many students often look down on local polytechnics and training colleges, something he said made authorities change name of the institutions from village polytechnics that were the previous references.
Ranguma claimed many students would rather repeat their final year twice or start doing drugs or illegal activities than join polytechnics, something he said is wrong.
“The world today is very competitive and time is of essence. It does not make sense to insist on repeating class when you have no solid strategy in place to do better,” he said.
“Many of them would rather repeat twice or waste away in drugs, criminal activities, or other forms of immoral behaviour than join these local institutions, something which is not only wrong and time wasting but also robbing the nation of its future,” added the governor.
