Squatters living on a piece of land owned by Kayatta Farmers' Cooperative Society were on Tuesday issued with a one week eviction notice.

The society's chairman, Mr Paul Musau, said the squatters had been issued with a previous notice early this year following a court order, which they failed to obey.

Speaking after a meeting with the cooperative society's members, Musau said they had given the squatters enough time to vacate the land considering the notice expired two months ago, hence the need to take strict measures.

The chairman said they had enough and were tired of issuing eviction notices that were being ignored by the squatters.

"The society members want to divide the property among themselves, a step that cannot be taken with squatters still residing on the land," said Musau.

Musau added that anyone who will not have vacated the land by the end of the week will be taken to court, and will have to pay for any expenses incurred by the society during the forceful eviction.
