Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) should consider having a parallel national tallying center in 2017 general election to combat rigging.
Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko said the move will enable the coalition to safeguard its votes from ‘weak systems’ of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“We all know that IEBC has done little to rectify inefficiencies that emerged in 2013 polls. To seal those rigging loopholes by our opponents, Cord must establish a parallel tallying center in which all results will be relayed for assessment in 2017,” he said.
Apoko accused IEBC of incompetence and questioned the reason behind the delay of Malindi parliamentary by-election results compared to Kericho senatorial by-election results.
“I still insist that IEBC hasn’t addressed 2013 polls shortcoming. Kenyans saw that on Monday during the by-elections. Kericho people were receiving results in a quicker manner despite its big land mass than Malindi which is a small constituency,” he said while addressing youths at Kisii Hotel on Tuesday.
The outspoken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCA challenged Cord to identify a team of ICT experts who will be deployed in all polling stations across the county to help relay accurate information from the grassroots.
“We have to wake up as apposition if we want to win the presidency. The coalition should recruit ICT experts and agents to be deployed in all polling stations to relay raw data as announced by presiding officers. That will curb election rigging which is synonymous in our country,” he said.
He also urged IEBC to deliver Forms 34 and 36 to all presidential party agents at polling stations for verification.
“It’s also my request to IEBC that they consider giving signed form 34 and 36 to all presidential agents in polling stations for verification to avoid suspicions. That is the only way we can have trust in IEBC,” he said.
