Cord coalition will not tolerate corruption in county units headed by governors elected on its affiliate parties’ ticket, coalition chief principal Raila Odinga said.

Speaking during the official opening of Kisii Entrepreneurship Summit, Odinga challenged governors allied to Cord to use the limited resources they get from national government and through revenue collection to promote development at the county units.

He warned of a possible humiliation during party primaries saying the coalition will respect the decision made by locals during nominations.

“Cord doesn’t condone corruption. I want to see all our governors doing the right thing at the right time. The little resources they get should be utilised prudently and for the benefit of local people. We will not hesitate to throw out those who steal public resources when seeking their re-election because our coalition is guided by principles of good governance,” Odinga warned.

He also said the coalition will let the rule of law prevail during prosecution of governors embroiled in corruption scandals and urged members of county assemblies to do their oversight role properly without fear.

‘Those who engage in corruption and in return seek our political support will be shocked. The rule of law must prevail because the coalition does not protect impunity. Our MCAs should also execute their roles appropriately by ensuring graft is combated in our counties. As Cord, we are keen to see all our 2013 manifesto is implemented in counties that we are controlling,” he said.
