A section of Kiambu town residents are worried over massive corruption being exposed in government and wants individuals implicated in the scams to resign.
Speaking to HiviSaSa.Com on Thursday, the residents said that corruption being exposed in government is tainting the country negatively.
The residents raised fears that investors and development partners could shy away from investing in the country as a result of graft.
“Kenyans should get worried over graft scams that are being exposed because they could easily hurt the economy,” said Fredrick Njoroge, a resident.
Njoroge said that corruption is eating up the economy and that appropriate measures need to be taken urgently.
“We are urging President Kenyatta to act tough on corruption and save the country from economic downfall,” said Regina Kariuki, a business person in Kiambu town.
Kariuki said that the individuals linked to graft must be dealt with accordingly to deter others from stealing public funds.
She also urged the government agencies mandated to fight corruption to speed up investigations and prosecution of suspects.
“We need to see people get jailed for stealing public money, that is the only way corruption will be tamed,” said Geoffrey Kiiru, a Kiambu town resident.
The allegations of graft especially at the NYS got a new twist on Tuesday after Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru in a sworn affidavit implicated National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale, Elgeyo Marakwet county senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President William Ruto’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet into the NYS scam.
Duale and Murkomen have however distance themselves from the scam accusing Waiguru of being used to cause instability in Jubilee.
Duale during a press conference at parliament buildings in Nairobi on Wednesday, asked Waiguru to carry her own cross and stop linking innocent people to her problems.
Already several Members of Parliament led by Nandi Hills Alfred Keter want Duale, Murkomen and others linked to the Sh791 Million NYS scam to step aside to allow for investigations.
