Nakuru Chief Agricultural Officer Purity Muritu says the county is reviving fish farming in the region to boost production.

Speaking on Thursday after touring Bahati Constituency, Muritu said the county government has allocated Sh10 million for the operations.

“The county government of Nakuru has set aside Sh10 million to revive unoperational fish ponds,” said Muritu.

She said most of the 400 fish ponds initiated under the Economic Stimulus Programme will be given priority.

“The fish ponds that stalled after the withdrawal of the ESP will receive first attention,” said the officer.

She also said the county is committed to addressing other agricultural areas.

“We are working at improving agricultural sectors by helping farmers adopt modern technologies to boost food production,” said Muritu.

She said the county government had procured over Sh1 million plant lets of tissue culture banana that have been distributed to Subukia sub-county in a bid to diversify agriculture.

She also called on farmers to go back to pyrethrum farming as the county government is offering free seedlings.
