Nakuru County fire fighting team has come under criticisms from residents who have accused it of responding sluggishly to tragedies.

The disapproval comes barely two days after a fierce inferno gutted a residential estate in Mukarafuu area, Nakuru West, leaving one person dead and property of unknown value destroyed.

Boniface Okendo a resident in the area said several properties could have been salvaged in the Saturday incident if the anti-fire team arrived early enough to stop the inferno.

Unfortunately, he said, their late arrival did not help much.

"This area is only two kilometers from the county government where the fire fighting engine is based yet it took them over 45 minutes to arrive get here. Had they arrived early, we could have saved a lot," he said.

The same sentiments were echoed by Robert Koech, a taxi operator who added that it was not the first time the anti-fire team was arriving late at incidents.

"The whole fire fighting team in the county needs an overhaul because they have become too lazy to work. They have a tendency of arriving much later after damage has been done," he quipped.

Doreen Imbaya on her part said the team had become quite ineffective and called on the county government to move fast and reinvigorate it.

"Maybe they are bored because to me I don't see their effectiveness. The county should at least motivate then," she argued.

However, efforts to reach officials of the county government over the matter were futile as their calls went unanswered.
