The county government of Kisii has threatened to sack public officials implicated in corruption related deals.
Speaking on Sunday during the ongoing Anti-Corruption week which will end on Wednesday, county deputy governor Joash Maangi warned public officials against using their offices to misuse public resources.
Maangi said the executive cannot afford sitting and watching corruption deals unfold, insisting that they will not have any alternative but to send those found guilty packing.
“Workers should not use the public sector as a quick way of enriching themselves. It’s meant for serving people and those who think they can misuse public resources should be ready to face the axe. As executive, we will walk the talk because we cannot tolerate corruption,” he said.
He urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials to work with county governments to help tame corruption.
“As much as we have an obligation as county government, we also need a helping hand from the EACC so that we can crack the whip as a team. It’s also important that the executive, county assembly and the judiciary collaborate so that we can completely curb the menace,” he added.
Maangi said the executive will not hesitate to compel its officials to step aside to pave way for independent investigations over alleged corruption and subsequently take action in line with reports submitted by anti-graft entities.
