The county government of Nakuru has allocated Sh9 million towards the renovation of the ALMS House, famously known as ‘Nyumba ya Wazee’ in Kivumbini ward, governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.

This was the governor’s first visit at the legendary home ever since he assumed office.

He seized the opportunity to thank the elderly men and women for their role in nurturing a respective and God fearing society.

Speaking at the facility, the governor said that it was part of his Christmas schedule of giving back to the society through the office of the governor and the Kinuthia Foundation initiative.

“As I celebrate Christmas with the less fortunate in the society, my aim is highlighting care and support for the old, sick and disadvantaged,” he said.

He called on the elderly to prioritise passing the county’s heritage, culture and other practices so as to breed a well-informed society that will preserve and respect culture something the present young generation was not upholding.

“As senior citizens, you are the foundation of our heritage, you are the rock that keeps our families and communities together,” Mbugua noted.

He led other senior officials from the county government in donating foodstuffs, clothing, bedding and other assorted stuffs as part of celebrating Christmas with them.

ALMS House was founded in 1955 by the government of Kenya to offer moral and material help to the elderly to the then larger Rift Valley Province.
