A section of business people in Salgaa have lauded the county government of Nakuru for kick starting the construction of the controversial truck parking bay in  a bid to transform the area.

The traders led by Rongai sub-county Business Forum vice chairman Mbuthia Njoroge while addressing the media on Friday said the move will be key in ensuring the region's rapid economic growth that has remained underserved by previous governments for decades.

"We are extremely happy to see the construction of this parking bay as promised by Gorvenor Mbugua commence today. This bay will attract more investment in this area because of its strategic location which links well with the Western corridor.’ Njoroge said.

The Sh13.1 million facility which is estimated at a 50 medium sized truck capacity is widely expected to open up the area for enterprise development by local residents.

Salgaa has over the years has become a black spot, with many road accidents reported due to inadequate infrastructure to curb crashes.

‘We are also happy because the number of accidents that have been recorded over the years along this Nakuru-Eldoret highway will be reduced since there will be no road congestion,’ Njoroge further added.

The parking bay estimated at a 50 medium size truck capacity is also anticipated to aid in curbing incidents of road accidents along Nakuru-Eldoret highway which claim lives and maim many others annually due to congestion occasioned by long distant trucks parked by the highway.

However, the businessmen also called on the county government to increase money allocated to the project, in order to add more amenities to the facility to enable many business people to reap benefits from the flagship project.

The construction of the bay suffered spates of politically driven conflict between the Nakuru County executive and the residents ,a development that led to years of its suspension .
