A section of Nakuru residents have praised the county government for its successful cancer awareness campaign.
Speaking on Sunday after the end of a free cancer testing and awareness event at the Nakuru Hospice, the residents said the event had not only enabled them know their statuses but also demystified the deadly disease.
"I want to thank the county government for bringing such an event to us. We have not only known our status but we have learnt more about cancer too which is vital in keeping safe," said Nathaniel Maina.
His sentiments were echoed by Mary Khaemba who said the exercise had equipped her with safety skills.
"Apart from the tests, I have learnt on which lifestyle leads to destruction and I'm happy I have known it early enough," she said.
The event which brought together the county government of Nakuru, the Africa Cancer Foundation and Faraja, a cancer support trust sought to carry out free breast cancer tests and cervical and prostrate cancer screening and was held for two days, Friday and Saturday even as several residents turned up.
