A Nyamira politician has accused the county government of using the ongoing court case between the Council of Governors and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) on management of roads at the grassroots as a shield of failing to rehabilitate roads.

Speaking at Mecheo region on Sunday, Mr Charles Mochama claimed that a number of roads which were under the jurisdiction of the county government had not been done, with the county government blaming the Transition Authority (TA) for the stalemate.

He challenged Nyamira County leadership to execute its duties of improving the feeder roads without necessarily involving the national government.

“We know the roads which are under the county and those that should be done by KeRRA. It’s disappointing that a number of roads across the county are still in a bad shape yet we are being told that they belong to the national government. The county should desist from misleading us and do the feeder roads which we know without hiding in the court case which counties filed,” he said.

Mochama faulted the county public works department for failing to reach Members of Parliament in the region to discuss the status of roads.

“I know they (county government) are fond of crying foul because they know how pertinent the matter is yet we rarely see them meeting MPs from the region to discuss the matter. All I know is many roads which should be done by the county are in a poor condition and they are using the court stalemate to brain wash our people,” he added.

Mochama said he will publish the name of feeder roads which were in deplorable state yet they fall under the jurisdiction of the county government and demand an action in a months’ time as part of his work as opposition leader in the county.
