A couple in whose hardware shop two elephant tusks were allegedly found has been charged in court for being in possession of wildlife trophies.

Danson Maina and his wife Lydia Muthoni were on Monday, November 30, arraigned before Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha and pleaded innocent to the charge.

The court heard that on November 27 in Nakuru town, two police officers who were acting on a tip-off raided the said shop and recovered the two tusks valued at Sh500,000.

The two were released on a bond of Sh200,000 each with a surety of similar amount or a cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

The case will proceed on February 10, 2016.
