A survey has revealed that the mortality rate among Kenyan adolescents living with HIV/Aids is on a sharp rise.
The report which was released by the Kenya Aids Survey Indicator reveals that majority of adolescents, especially in secondary schools are the most affected by the virus as a result of not adhering to the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART).
According to Sylvia Ojoo, assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Maryland, most adolescents in schools were shunning the ART for fear of being stigmatised by their peers.
Ojoo further blamed educational institutions of not coming up with a strong system that can support students living with the virus.
She also blamed guardians for not informing teachers and health practitioners on how to handle such students.
The report further indicates that about 150,00 aged between 10 and 19 are living with HIV yet a lot of emphasis and campaigns seemed to only target other age groups.
