Kisii County Assembly Speaker Kerosi Ondieki has called upon the National Government to declare corruption a national disaster.
He says declaring the vice a national disaster will enable Kenyans to realise the magnitude of the effects of corruption to the future of the country.
According to Ondieki, it will be good for the government to declare corruption a national disaster so that each one can understand it and have measures of fighting it.
The speaker who was speaking on Monday at a Kisii hotel during a meeting organised by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to educate members of the county assembly on how to fight graft, said it was very important for corruption to be declared a national disaster.
“Let this vice be declared a national disaster so that each one of us can be more aware of it and have measures in place to fight it,” said Ondieki.
He said that when HIV/Aids was declared a national disaster, it made people join hands and fight against it as they campaigned against the disease and the results of it have been seen.
“We need to fight corruption as we have done to other things that have been affecting us,” added Ondieki.
He also said that as a county assembly, they are committed to fighting the vice and always campaign against it.
“We are always committed to fighting graft, by the use of the assembly we are going to strengthen measures against the vice,” added
