Few days after over 3,000 people from Gusii region visited Deputy President William Ruto’s Sugoi home, a move that elicited sharp reaction especially from ODM supporters since the delegation was led by two senior party leaders, a few delegates have opened up on what had transpired.

Sharp criticism had elicited on social media in which participants were accused of allegedly receiving a ‘bribe’ from the DP to champion for the newly formed Jubilee party in the region, which is perceived to be a stronghold of opposition, Cord.

Speaking to this reporter on Monday, two delegates confirmed that the DP only gave Sh2,000 that was to be used as fare back home.

“I am really mesmerized by reports I have seen in social media that we went to receive bribes. I can confirm that we received only Sh2,000 that were meant for fare back home. I am not aware of the allegations that we received a lot of money,” said Peter Nyamongo.

His counterpart, Kevin Basuma, also confirmed having received Sh2,000 but seemed discounted with the amount alleging that some of the organisers had assured him of receiving Sh10,000 as participatory fee.

“I received Sh2,000 against what I had been promised by some organizers who called me to book a bus to Eldoret. I believe that delegates were cheated because even some showed me messages in which they were equally promised Sh10,000. It could be that our leaders played with our minds to their advantage,” he said.

Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka were in charge of the 3,000-member delegation.
