People living with disabilities from Gituamba ward have complained that the National Government has left them out of the cash transfer program meant to cater for older persons, orphans and the vulnerable.
Speaking from Gituamba township on Thursday, the ward disabled persons chairman Martin Kwamboka lamented that although many of their members registered under the program a few months ago, only a few were receiving the monthly stipend of Sh2,000.
Kwamboka complained that whereas the program listed 196 aged people to be taken care of, only 53 disabled people were registered; a figure he said was far below the number of people living with disability from the ward.
"Gituamba has more than 200 disabled persons among which only 53 persons receive the government stipend," he said.
"We are urging the government to consider sending the cash via phone and on a timely basis. There are persons who solely depend on Sh2000 and if the government delays the cash, many suffer," he added.
"The 200 persons am talking about handed forms which they filled and were assured of the money. I don’t know what the government is up to," he reasoned.
The disabled now want the government to revise the figures and cater for more disabled people or else they will be forced to take to the streets.
