The United Nations Children’s Fund advovate for immunisation against Polio in Kisumu Caroline Agwanda has appealed to parents to disregard interpretation against immunisation.
Ms Agwanda said parents should make available their children for the mass Polio immunisation that comes to an end on Wednesday.
“Some people have been peddling lies about the Polio vaccine but I want to tell parents not to listen to such comments but follow the government directive,” she said.
She said Polio is preventable and the vaccination is one sure way to kick out the disease out of Kisumu County.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Tuesday, Ms Agwanda said she has devoted her time to champion the cause of Polio eradication to ensure no child fell victim to the deadly disease.
Ms Agwanda who is also the Kisumu County Assembly nominated MCA representing people with disability says most Polio cases have occurred as a result of laxity on parents to ensure their children are immunised.
She said the country is capable of eradicating Polio if there is support from all citizens.
“If only Kenyans can follow the advice of our medics, then we will say good bye to Polio in Kenya. But some parents are difficult, some follow what their religion says,” she said.
