Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati has been urged to remain neutral in the constituency politics amid anxiety that he was likely to throw his support to perennial contestant Shadrack Mose.
Nyambati made a dramatic exit from running for the MP's seat and announced his bid of challenging Governor John Nyagarama in 2017 polls.
Speaking at Manga ward on Monday, aspiring MP Victor Ogeto said the former MP should remain neutral since he also needed their support for gubernatorial race.
“I want to appeal to Nyambati to remain neutral in 2017 Member of Parliament race. He equally needs support from all Kitutu Masaba aspiring and even the incumbent MP. It will be prejudicial if he announces his stand publicly,” Ogeto said.
Ogeto said the move will allow Nyambati’s supporters to make independent decision without necessarily having someone imposed on them.
“I believe all aspirants understand vote hunting. Nyambati should let his former supports choose a suitable candidate among us because he is no longer in the parliamentary race. Our people should be allowed to make independent decisions,” he added.
He warned of serious political repercussions in case the former MP declared openly his support to a specific candidate.
“Now that he is contesting for governor, he should let us handle this. Otherwise failure to that, he should be prepared for serious political repercussions in his gubernatorial bid,” he added.
Nyambati’s exit has now narrowed Kitutu Masaba parliamentary race to three with incumbent Timothy Bosire, Shadrack Mose and Victor Ogeto traversing the region as 2017 campaigns gather momentum.
