Joining secondary school is one dream every pupil has. When one leaves primary which is equated to jail, they are so eager to join secondary.

After results have been announced, many pupils who passed are very happy knowing they are moving to another step ahead in life. As they join however, they have this fear of being bullied by other students in school. Perhaps they had once been told stories on how form ones were bullied. In some cases, some students lost their lives in the hands of the bully.

I had a little chat with pupils who are set to join secondary schools in Kibera. When I asked them if they believe bullying is still there, Harriet Onyango was quick to answer that it might still be there but not as bad as it was in the 90’s.

Yvette Okira also said it depends on the person.

‘’I believe if you are a so polite to people and play like a person who fears every individual in the school, it will be very easy for you to be bullied,’’ said Okira.

Almasi Juma, however, said bullying still exists although many form one students fear talking about it. He said the victims are threatened and so they suffer in silence.
