Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama has told youths in his constituency not to allow politicians interfere with the recently revived National Youth Service empowerment programme.

While addressing hundreds of youths in his constituency on Friday in Kaptembwo, Arama said closure of the NYS programme in the past was due to political interference.

“My appeal to you is you take charge of this programme and do not allow politics to get in the way because it happened the last time this project was running but it ended up on the ground,” he said.

“This time round, say know to those who want to channel politics in it for their own political mileage because this is your livelihood and nobody should play around with you source of income,” he added.

He said some politicians have been using the programme to campaign while others use it to ridicule the government.

NYS now under Public Service ministry headed by Cecily Kariuki has launched NYS programmes afresh countrywide.

Nakuru West was among the constituencies that had the programme ongoing when it was brought to an abrupt stop after massive looting of Sh791 million last year.
