Democratic Party chairperson Joseph Munyao has dispelled possibilities of dissolving the party and joining the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2017 General Election.

Addressing the press in Machakos on Friday, Munyao accused a section of politicians for spreading rumours that the party has joined Jubilee Party saying the claims are false and unfounded.

“The other day I saw a group of politicians saying that DP is with them yet there was no member of DP in that meeting,” he said.

Munyao however affirmed the party's support for President Uhuru Kenyatta saying they will push for his re-election in the 2017 elections.

"On behalf of the entire Democratic Party membership, the DP national governing council would like to inform all Kenyans that we support President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government,” he said.

He however clarified that supporting President Kenyatta did not mean that the party will join Jubilee Party, which is a merger of Deputy President William Ruto’s URP party, President Kenyatta’s TNA party and other affiliate parties.

“It is important to note that we remain an independent party with no intentions of merging with any other political party for now,” he said.

Munyao emphasised that his party will continue being an independent political party until and unless they decided otherwise.
