Educationists from Gatundu North have been urged to provide mentorship and counseling programmes to young learners in an effort to boost academic performance in the area.
A local educationist Simon Mumu says such initiatives will encourage primary and secondary students to pursue higher education and shun influence from bad company.
Speaking during a motivation exercise at Nyamathumbi secondary school on Friday, Mumu said many young people are failing to complete their secondary education due to bad influence and lack of encouragement.
He underscored the importance of mentorship and counseling to young learners, saying it helps students to set academic targets, and work out modalities on how to meet them.
"I announce the continuity of this mentorship programme especially to our young girls who quickly rush to marriage after completion of basic studies," he said.
He lauded some education stakeholders from the county who volunteered to help pupils from Nyamathumbi area, resulting to better grades in the last KCPE compared to the previous years.
"We also ask our students to add more efforts in their studies and try to balance theory with practical works. Together in educational change, Gatundu North will soon be ranked number one in Kiambu County," he argued.
Mugo called upon all people of good will to chip in and assist local schools by improving infrastructure, so as to provide a conducive learning environment.
Gatundu North sub-county has posted great improvement with 37 pupils scoring above 400 marks, and over 70 students being enrolled in national schools.
