Nyamira educationists Nyandoro Kambi believes the county would only improve its perceived dismal development record if residents elect learned Members of County Assembly (MCA).
Speaking on Wednesday during a voter sensitisation exercise in Nyansiongo, he slammed the record of the current MCAs as 'a bunch of uneducated compromised humans’ and pleaded with electorates to make a wise decision in next year's polls.
“We all know that our county has struggled to initiate tangible development projects and I sometimes think we should blame ourselves," stated Kambi.
"We elected a bunch of uneducated, compromised humans who are out to fight for their selfish interests making the county government sleep on its job,” he added.
According to Kambi, who also eyes Borabu parliamentary seat, at least 70 percent of Nyamira MCAs are unable to legislate making it hard for them to execute their oversight roles properly.
“I have interacted with a number of them and I can confirm without a doubt that 70 percent of them are semi illiterate. Making legislation and pushing for accountability a bit difficult," said Kambi.
"This makes a number of them vulnerable to incentives from the incompetent county government to rubber stamp ghost projects,” he added.
“We have an opportunity to elect learned people if we want to see a social transformation in our county. It’s sad that many counties are making huge strides because they made wise choices," added the aspirant.
"It’s not yet late for us since we can redeem ourselves in 2017,” said Kambi.
He warned residents against being lured by uneducated candidates who were out to lure them using money accumulated through questionable deals.
“I know parliament is yet to legislate on minimum education requirements for he MCAs but we should be vigilant in 2017 to avoid some of them because I understand they are coming with money to confuse your conscious," said Kambi.
"We deserve learned people who can steer our county by executing their roles from concrete proposals and legislations that can take us a step ahead,” he added.
