Kisii County governor James Ongwae has called on all universities establishing their branches in Kisii County to focus mostly on agriculture related courses.

He said that will equip the residents with relevant skills on agriculture, especially in the county that is well known for agriculture.

“We have already allocated various universities land across the county and we all expect their managements to establish a branch dealing majorly with agriculture related courses to trigger interest for extensive agriculture in the county,” he added.

He said other universities that have shown interest in establishing branches in the area must ensure that they major on agricultural courses.

The governor was speaking Monday afternoon when he issued school fees to 200 students, who benefited from the Kisii County governor scholarship programme that began in 2014.

He admitted that the criteria used in selecting the students who benefited from the scholarship was flawed by his own officers.

He, however, said the second selection this year must be done in accordance with the laid down guidelines, adding that any of his officers who shall influence the outcome of the selection will be subjected to punitive action.

The governor also warned non performing students of losing the scholarship saying that the county government will replace them with other bright but needy students.

He stressed that the scholarship will only benefit those bright but needy students adding that they must be from public primary schools.
