School leavers and young people in Gisaiga sub-location, Sameta sub-county have been challenged to embrace youth polytechnics to exploit their technical skills for self-reliance and economic empowerment instead of idling around.
Gioasaiga Assistant chief James Mogo advised youth on the importance of enrolling for technical courses in local youth polytechnics which he said have been snubbed by many school leavers.
Speaking on Sunday evening at Getobo village during a funds drive in aid of Thomas Otucho's son who is pursuing an education course at Kisii University, Mogo lamented that there was a misconception among many young people and school leavers in the area that the polytechnics were meant for academic failures.
He claimed that even some progressive scholars in the field of technical education at one time enrolled for craft courses in the former village polytechnics before pursuing their technical education careers to the highest levels.
"I am encouraging school leavers and young people from my area to enroll for technical courses in the local youth polytechnics to benefit from Government funds channeled to those institutions as school fees for learners to assist them complete their technical education courses successfully," the chief stated.
