Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi has called upon politicians and leaders in Machakos to embrace the principles of democracy.
Speaking during a fund raising event at Kikule Secondary School on Friday, the MP warned leaders against making inflammatory statements with the aim of dividing residents as it is against the law.
"As an elected official, one should measure the words he or she speaks during public gatherings or when in the glare of the media, as hate speech among leaders in power is not in line with the principles of a democratic country,” said Mwangangi.
Mwangangi further condemned politicians who use their financial status to woe residents, saying the behaviour was against the democratic constitution.
"It is very irresponsible for any leader to instigate hatred and fear so as to rule in favour of the situation. We should all respect the principles of democracy,” added Mwangangi.
