Idleness has been cited as one of the reasons why youths engage in criminal activities, alcoholism, unwanted sexual practices, drug and substance abuse.
Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s wife Lucia believes giving back to society is the best way of ensuring young people remain busy, with no time to engage in illegal activities.
"It doesn’t pay anything to visit an old woman's home, do her laundry, sweep the compound and help her prepare a meal. In fact, it’s a blessing," she noted.
She called on immediate former candidates to prioritise such activities as they await their results, a period she said is very delicate especially for the girl-child.
She spoke on Wednesday in Subukia when she made stop-overs in the homes of Tabitha Mutundu and Alice Wanjiru; two breast cancer patients.
She further called on young people to join local community based organisations that engage in community health, sex education and youthful life education so as not to be subjected to peer pressure.
It was an early Christmas present to the two families after the First Lady gave them foodstuff to supplement them this festive season.
