As people on Sunday were busy buying flowers and chocolates for their loved ones, an old couple in Kibera was just sitting and telling each other stories.
The couple, who did not want to have any of their photos taken shed some light about what Valentines means to them.
‘‘Buying somebody you claim is special flowers just on that particular day simply means you do not cherish them enough to buy them flowers daily,’’ said Augustus Koi.
Augustus, 69 and his wife Miriam, 65 have been married for more than fifty years and have more than fifteen children.
Miriam says the secret to an amazing love life is celebrating Valentine every day.
‘‘I hear people say valentine is celebrating love. Then it means you should celebrate it every day because our lives are built on one foundation which is love,’’ she said.
According to the couple, they could not buy flowers for each other because they celebrate their love daily.
‘‘If celebrating love is buying flowers then I think I will be buying flowers daily which is a waste of money,’’ said Augustus.
The couple has urged the young generation not to be fooled by the Western culture by copying everything but rather be innovative to set their own culture that will be celebrated worldwide.
