A former Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer was on Monday arraigned before a Mombasa Court and charged with illegally being in possession of ammunition.

Mr Mohammed Hussein Warsame was charged together with Mr Robie Kassim Abdi and Mr Aden Abdullahi Abdi.

The court was told that during their arrest, they were allegedly in possession of 54 rounds of ammunition without a firearm certificate with the intent of committing a felony.

The three were arrested on December 30 last year by an Anti-Terror Police Unit officer at Silus Guest House along Raha Leo Street in Mombasa County.

Warsame who is a former KWS officer was facing a separate charge of impersonating a public officer.

The prosecution told the court that Warsame during the arrest introduced himself as a KWS officer to the Criminal Investigating officer.

The three were also linked by the investigating officers of being involved in terror related activities.

The accused persons however denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bail which the prosecution opposed.

State Counsel Eugene Wangila while opposing the bail application asked the court to remand the accused, saying they were still under investigations and more charges could be preferred against them.

The investigating officers further asked for time to complete their investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Richad Odenyo ordered for the accused persons to be remanded in police custody for 30 days to allow the police to complete their investigations.

The case will be heard on March 1, 2016.
