Farmers in Thika East sub county have been told to subject their livestock and other domestic animals for vaccination at the Ngoliba cattle dip or to open their doors to the door to door exercise in the ongoing three-day vaccination program.

Speaking during the launch of a livestock vaccination program in the area on Wednesday, Thika sub county livestock officer who is also overseeing the administration of the vaccination in the area Mrs. Jackline Mwangi called on farmers to ensure that their animals were attended to by a genuine county government staff.

She added that there are fears of livestock upcoming diseases in the area and the farmers who evade the process will be risking their lives as well as risking losing their livestock.

“Let everyone take his/her livestock to the dip for vaccination as the process will be coming to end on Saturday. It is for their health concerns that we are doing this and so let us all cooperate with the county government officers who are conducting the exercise,” she said.

In the exercise, a cow is being vaccinated at the cost of Kshs. 100, a dog at Kshs. 50, and a cat at Kshs. 30 which according to Mrs. Mwangi, the farmers are supposed to pay the money to one authorised clerk and acquire an ETR receipt before being attended to.

“We are sending other officers to vaccinate the animals door to door to ease the access of our services by the whole population and we will ensure that every area has enough officers who will attend to the farmers and domestic animal owners,” Mwangi added.

She said that they are targeting about 4, 000 livestock in the sub county.
