Farmers have been urged to use organic manure as they prepare for the planting season.
County Director of Agriculture Joel Ogot said that it time farmers embraced organic manure due to the vast benefits it has.
"Farmers should stop complaining that the government has not provided fertilizer, yet they can make their own organic manure," said Mr Ogot.
While speaking to this writer via phone on Tuesday evening, Ogot said chemical fertilizer has been proven to be toxic to both plants and soils, something that puts future food production in jeopardy.
"Organic fertilizers are easily bio-degradable and do not cause environmental pollution, that's what the globe is trying to fight," said Ogot.
He added that chemical fertilizers contaminate both land and water, something that is a major cause of diseases among people.
"With organic manure, soil fertility is guaranteed because the manure remains in the soil, where it can be re-used over and over again, compared to chemical fertilizer," said Ogot.
He said that through the extension officers, the county government seeks to educate farmers on the best farming practices so that they can get higher yields that can feed the entire country at large.
