Devolved units are likely to prosper if county leaders embraced dialogue in all aspects instead of engaging in endless squabbles, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has said.
In a message directed to leaders of Nyamira County who have been engaging in verbal attacks, Mrs Kenyatta Wednesday slammed leaders who were not ready to embrace dialogue and termed them ‘let down’ to innocent people.
Mrs Kenyatta noted that leadership wrangles were derailing development activities across the nation and called for sobriety among leaders.
“Unity is something indispensable that we can’t afford to lose in leadership. A leadership embroiled in persistent squabbles is a big letdown to the community. As leaders, it’s essential to embrace dialogue to solve critical issues affecting our society,” she said.
She urged political elites from the region to learn to solve their ideological differences without necessarily impeding development which is key to residents.
“And my humble message to all Nyamira leaders and of course to other counties is that let's have differences that are not permanent. We learn from each other and therefore should not hold development at ransom simply because we have ideological differences. We can only attain development if we embrace unity as leaders,” she added.
Governor John Nyagarama’s leadership has had a fair share of criticism, with Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire leading a camp opposed to his leadership.
